So I clearly still have internet access. Here’s a rundown of my day:
9 AM - mailed a box home. Spent a total of 230,000 KRW on 2 boxes home (23 total KG; it’s about 10,000 a kilo, not terrible).
9:20 AM - call Olleh Internet. Tried to cancel. To cancel right now was a 52,000 cancellation fee, plus the bill (Which is always paid on the 25th) of 35,000. Or I could just pay ahead for next month for 42,000. So I paid 77,000, 42,000 of which is for internet I will not use. I saved 10,000 though? Stupid Olleh not having a better plan. Doing right is expensive.
10 AM - Dentist appointment. Had my gums abused. I need to be better at flossing.
11:30 AM - went to internship, lunched with the CEO (Jeonju Bibimbap—delish). I’m still not entirely sure there will be a job for me in NYC in mid/late March, but I have no reason not to trust this guy.
2 PM - Olleh Phone Store in Gangnam. Cancelled my phone service. Owed about 430,000 on my iPhone yet (which I knew I would when I signed up—it’s unlocked now and can be used in the US), had to pay the bill that would’ve been paid on the 25th (68,000) and a pro-rated bill for what I’ve used in February so far (15,000). 500,000+ to cancel my cell phone.
All of my Olleh costs could’ve been avoided if I’d up and left. I’d have felt guilty for a while. They should find a better option for foreigners on both accounts.
5 PM - Yufei switched his couch with mine, then pillaged (but no rape) my apartment while I had dinner with the better half. He made out like a bandit, and I ate Pizza School as my last meal in Korea (it was going to be bibimbap until the CEO took me for that for lunch).
Evening: Finished packing, hung out with the better half. Sad to be leaving my place. But more on feelings in the next post.
Seriously, pay your last bills when you leave the country. You create bad images of foreigners for the future, and can fuck a lot of us over. Yes, it might suck and be expensive, but you agreed to it. Read before you sign up, yo.
