So home is weird and strange. It’s nice to have space and not a million people, but American things make me uncomfortable.
Examples:
Karaoke at the bar. Bleahhrhrhr. No. Go to a Norae-bang. I don’t want to hear your 12 year old sing about doing it on the couch and stroking it to the east.
People at bar/restaurants. Went to what would be a “Hof” in my area (chicken and beer) and it’s just SO.LOUD. I appreciate how Korean places largely separate tables so that you can hear and talk with people in your group.
Service in restaurants/bars. I was sitting with a friend at another “hof” type establishment (there’s not a lot to do here) and the waitress came and interrupted us about 5 times in 30 minutes. I just want to scream “yoggii-oh” when I need something, not have my conversation interrupted.
I also went swimming, which was an incredibly positive experience. There were only 10 people in the pool, and the guard put a lane divider in, giving me a lane entirely to myself. Though I was sad at how empty the YMCA was overall.
NW Ohio just seems like a sad place. It’s so clear that this area peaked about twenty years ago or so, and the pace of declination has only accelerated since 2007.
Also attended a HS basketball game Saturday night. Was a great game and a lot of fun. As sad as I just said this place is, our schools are beautiful. Completely renovated high school and elementary school, and a brand new middle school and other elementary school.
