Trying to get over the flu? Skip the chicken soup and grab a pint of “influenza sorbet,” the bourbon-infused frozen treat from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams loaded with stuff designed to help clear your passages. And despite the name, it is not influenza-flavored. Though we’re sure the Maker’s Mark gives it a kick.

It may not be influenza-flavored, but Jeni Britton Bauer did tell us last year that she had experimented with vinegar and other flavors inspired by her mother’s home remedy of wearing vinegar-soaked socks.
“The funny thing was, I said it was going to either taste like creme fraiche or feet,” Britton Bauer recalled. “It tasted like feet. We were like ‘Oh, that isn’t good.’  ”

Here’s to hoping I don’t need this.  Props to Jeni’s for this photo being in the LA Times.  Jeni’s is good people.

Real Ohioans explain why they’re voting for Romney, and against Obama.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This is eight minutes of your life well-spent. Watch twice for extra GRR.

I SWEAR there are intelligent rational people in the state of Ohio.  But this video is all too familiar to me.

Sigh.

Jeni’s Ice Creams to Offer Free Samples

meredithmo:

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, based in Columbus, Ohio, has earned a national reputation thanks to quality and uncommon flavors, a Web site that offers mail order, an expanding distribution network and a cookbook. Now, for a week, the company’s ice cream truck heads east to patrol the streets of New York, dispensing sample scoops of its summer flavors: sweet corn and black raspberries, roasted strawberry buttermilk and salty caramel ice creams, and lemon-blueberry frozen yogurt. The trucks will mostly be parked outside retailers that sell Jeni’s ice cream.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will offer free tastings at select locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn from Saturday to Sept. 15, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The full schedule is at blog.jenis.com/nyc.

My body is ready.

NYC People take heed!  The best ice cream on the planet.  Sweet Corn Raspberry FTW!

theatlantic:

Today in 1969, humans walked on the Moon for the first time.

Clarification: The landing was on July 20th. Badass Ohioan Neil Armstrong wouldn’t step onto the moon’s surface until July 21st.

Still though, regardless of the precise date, not bad for a kid from Wapakoneta.

…picture why did you turn sideways?

Because I can never not reblog a post about Jeni’s.

So this is what I’ve been working on the past 2-3 months.  It’s finally come to fruition, though still is a work in progress.
What you see there is fresh hummus, babaganoush, and tabbouleh, all of which are on shelves at a local grocer in Columbus. I don’t make the food, but I’m still incredibly proud to be selling and sharing it.  With the exception of the lemon juice, everything is single ingredient (and we’re in the process of changing lemon juices).  All-natural, no preservatives or additives.  This stuff is legit.  This is good stuff, and if you come visit in Columbus, we’ll definitely eat some :D
Edit:
Not sure how I left this out, but the restaurant I’m working with is Mazah Mediterranean Eatery.

Another health-conscious vegan.: My letter to OSU about their requirement of a visual or performing art

that-fit-vegan:

Hello!

My name is Brooke — and I am a junior in high school in Massachusetts. I have always loved languages since a very young age (when my first grade class would go to the library once a week I would always read the “French for Beginners” or “American Sign Language Basics” books). My freshman…

Fascinating scenario.  I hope that you become a Buckeye, and are able to involve yourself in some of their fantastic opportunities in the visual/performing arts!
